The food of 362 state and local schools and 150 classrooms for young and adults from Campinas is made by Ceasa in a partnership project with the Municipal Secretary of Education. There are 164 thousand meals per day in average with 15 types of menu which prioritize the natural food with more fruits and vegetables.
The investment in the Municipal Program of School Meal has increased 70% from 2004 to 2008. Among the improvements, this increase ensured 28.4% more fruits and vegetables in 2007 compared to 2006. The meals supplied in the schools in Campinas, today, has a better quality control in acquisition, logistics and food preparation. Campinas was considered a pioneer in providing infant formula milk for babies which is more adequate in the case when breastfeeding is impossible or was discontinued. he case when breastfeeding is impossible or was discontinued.
Projects and Improvements
The program develops special projects such as life quality improvement for diabetic students and those with lactose intolerance; to introduce healthy feeding actions in Cemeis and Emeis (public schools for children ranging from 4 months old to 5 years old); to make the students aware of how the program is developed and promote life quality through nutrition guidance and follow-up. In addition to that, the school meal counts on innovations and improvements such as introducing integral food that helps the health, the investment in materials so that to improve the products storage and expanding the customer service and supervision.
